So I would like to share what I personally use on a daily basis that has improved my overall health and wellbeing, and where it got me today. Here are a few of my favourite tips you can enjoy on: morning ritual, skincare, balancing hormones, yoga, workout, work-related, cooking, and winding down. Read on to find out more…
 

Morning Ritual

 
I start my day with a couple drops of Lemon in warm water. I’m sure you’ve heard how drinking lemon water every morning is a great way to kickstart your system and alkalizes your body. I used to squeeze fresh lemons every morning and I have to admit on some days I tend to get lazy and slack off. Nowadays it is so easy as I simply add 2 drops in warm water – no excuses anymore right? Plus I’m getting even more health benefits because lemon oil contains 68% d-limonene which is a powerful cancer fighting antioxidant.
I did an experiment on the effects of lemon essential oil on polystyrene. You can try this at home too. Makes you feel like a bit of a mad scientist (if you’re looking for any excuse to put a lab coat on and goggles, but that’s not necessary). We know polystyrene is bad for the environment but it is just as damaging to our health. They contain hydrocarbons – all the nasties that are toxic and carcinogenic. Imagine our bodies are filled with them as we expose ourselves to unhealthy diets, pollutants, stress, radiation, heavy metals, and everything else that sounds depressing. Lemon essential oil is known to be the most powerful detoxing agent for hydrocarbons – there are currently more than 500 research publications on lemon EO for cancer. Fun fact: It takes 3000 lemons to make 1kg of lemon essential oil! (It is cold pressed from the rind and not the fruit because that is where all the nutrients are packed).
Before my breakfast I would also take 2 oz. of NingXia Red (contains the wolfberry superfruit, in the same family as goji berries). It is the highest antioxidant drink in the world today and is known to reverse the signs of ageing. [Psst… residents from Ningxia province in China who lives over 100 years exceeded the national average by an amazing 400%!] Not only does it help with my energy levels throughout the day, it has also improved my eyesight! For added boost I would put a few drops of the citrus oils. Just so you get a sense of its power, everyone seem to be on an Acai craze because it’s filled with antioxidants and it’s a superfood. However on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) NingXia wolfberries are more antioxidant-rich than any fruit or vegetable ever tested. KA-POW!!!

Fun fact: Can you eat 100 oranges, 814 blueberries, 22 medium carrots, 10.85 lbs spinach, 59 broccoli florets, 73 medium strawberries, and 93 apples? Then just drink 1 oz. of NingXia Red.
 

Skincare

 
ART skincareLet’s face it (no pun intended), we all want healthy glowing skin and complexions. I haven’t always been blessed with smooth skin like a porcelain China doll. Since being diagnosed with PCOS at an early stage in my life, the hormones in my body decided to have a party on my face with horrible breakouts. But I have found ever since incorporating the oils into my daily skincare and using it to balance my hormones, it has made a tremendous difference.
I apply Helichrysum and Frankincense as they all have healing properties for the skin, not to mention reduces wrinkles too!
When “Aunt Flow” shows up every month, I now get the odd zit or two. Purification works wonders on the spot.
It is important to also use chemical-free skincare, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, household cleaning products, even cosmetics. Because chemical traces can be found in our bodies even after many years. There has been a scientific study done showing more than 200 different chemicals in newborn umbilical cord. Balance Hormones

 
progessence phyto plusI used Progessence Photo Plus (PPP), Geranium, Clary Sage for a period of 6 months. After that I also used Rose, Endoflex, Lady Sclareol, Sacred Frankincense.
These essential oils have been pivotal in balancing my hormones. My cycles used to go on for 2 weeks and sometimes it doesn’t even come for 3 months. I used to get horrible abdominal cramps that I can’t get out of bed. Nowadays I don’t even feel a thing! Send me a message if you want to know more and I will share with you the protocol I adhered to. (It is good to allow time for the oils to work itself in your system. Note that not all our bodies are made the same, so some oil may work effectively for someone more so than others. Just have the patience to try them out and see what works best on you).
[Psst… for those women out there who want their hubbies to have a softer/romantic side, put 1 drop of Rose in 1 litre drinking water and get him to drink it throughout the day – the residue of rose oil will stay for many rounds of refills. Romeo will come knocking on your door ;)]
 

Yoga

 
Power Of Now OasisI try my best to make time for a few yoga practices every week. I feel it’s really important to stay grounded and not let the hectic lifestyle get the better of me. I am so blessed to be able to honor my practice at a gorgeous bamboo yoga hut facing the beach, which is a short walking distance from my home.
I like to apply Valor on the bottoms of my feet to ground myself, Believe on my heart centre & crown chakra, and also inhale White Angelica.
Here is a mantra I end my session with that always sets me in a positive frame of mind:
May our thoughts become our words
May our words become our actions
May our actions become our karma
 
 

Workout

 
IMG_3997About 30-60 minutes before a workout I would take a drop of Peppermint in a glass of water,  and I’ll add another drop in my water bottle to drink throughout. I found this has enabled me to breathe better and recover at a quicker rate. It’s also great to apply on any sore muscles, pain, or area of discomfort.
My husband who was a HUGE skeptic at first now SWEARS by this. He runs 10km everyday and would not put on his running gear without having his peppermint water now. He also loves taking NingXia Red as it gives him a boost of energy.
A recent study in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition found that peppermint oil can improve athletic performance. Read the full findings here.
10 years ago I had an unfortunate accident falling on ice and misplaced my tailbone. Yes, ouchies! Not fun at all. It was a constant challenge for many years managing the pain because the injury is in such a pesky area that it’s hard for it to heal completely. It actually compromised my quality of life as it didn’t allow me to do many things comfortably, sitting being the most basic thing! I used to be in pain everyday that “chronic” has graduated itself from my vocabulary. My chiro told me it’s one of those things I’ll have to deal with for the rest of my life while I try to incorporate certain things to support it.
However over the last 2 years, I have been using some pain management oils and it has been such a life saver!
Oils for pain
 
Pan-Away (“pain pain go away”) is wonderful in relieving pain. If I’m starting to feel sore or tender around certain parts of my body, I would apply Pan-Away and top it off with Copaiba because it amplifies the effects of any oils you apply before it. Copaiba is also known as a pain reliever and the highest anti-inflammatory oil. Win-Win!
Cypress is great for circulation.
Valor is called a “Chiropractor in a bottle”. It’s used for back-related issues like pain and even scoliosis. It really does help re-align the spine and heal broken bones.
Deep Relief is also my top oil for yup you guessed it: relieving pain. It’s a convenient roll on that I can apply literally anywhere. If I could soak my whole body in this I would! It’s great for headaches too.
I also do the Raindrop Technique on my feet and spine. This treatment is amazing for anyone who has back issues and has been proven to reverse scoliosis, among many other conditions. Work-related

You can’t tell me that nobody in this world has never been stressed. Ok maybe monks aren’t.
But we’re constantly stressed with one thing or another and it can get quite overwhelming, not to mention toxic for our system. Stress is the number one killer in the world today. So I do myself a favor and apply some Stress Away.

My husband has always said I’ve got a memory of a giraffe. Did you know that giraffes only have a memory span of 7 seconds??? Well I’m not that bad (or at least I don’t think so). But on certain days my head can get a little fuzzy. So inhaling Clarity (didn’t take a genius to come up with that name) and applying it on my temples has helped sharpen my mind. I’d like to think I’m slowly advancing to the memory capabilities of a bird called the Clark’s Nutcracker [Psst… the Clark’s Nutcracker hides up to 30,000 seeds each year and can remember the exact location of them! Don’t get me started with my sense of direction… Someone needs to formulate an oil for that!]
 

Cooking

 
IMG_2769My other passion has always been cooking. My family and friends would know how much I enjoy cooking, especially healthy meals. I could spend an entire day in the kitchen and have a ball! I find it so therapeutic and it makes my heart smile to feed people. It’s even more rewarding to know that I’m fueling my body with good sources so it can heal and repair itself – our bodies are smarter than you give credit for.
I make my own home made salad dressings with essential oils such as Lemon, Basil, Rosemary. No more store bought dressings that contain preservatives.
 
 
IMG_6081Italian nights are fun because there are so many oils that I can cook with: Basil, Thyme, Oregano, Rosemary, just to name a few. It does not even take a drop of oil to flavor your pasta sauce because even that’s too much. Try dabbing a little bit on a toothpick and then swirl it in your sauce. You’ll be amazed with the aroma bubbling in front of you. Next time you make bruschetta use Basil oil and you’ll never want to use shredded basil leaves again (ok fine, you can add it as garnish to make it look all pretty).
Citrus oils such as Lemon, Lemongrass, Lime are fabulous for marinading chicken or fish. Add a drop and spread it around before steaming/baking/searing.
When I’m cooking a recipe that calls for certain herbs, I will look at my “oil pantry” and use them instead because they really do bring out the flavors of the dish.

If you happen to have a sweet tooth and getting a whiff of something baking in the oven sends your heart racing, then you’d love what I’m about to suggest next. There are literally endless possibilities to use essential oils for desserts and treats: lemon cookies, peppermint brownies, orange cake, lavender and blueberry muffins, lime cupcakes, cinnamon scrolls, lime sorbet, … I’m sure you’re getting the picture. Experimenting is all part of the fun. Of course there are healthier options and substitutes that you can use. Being healthy doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your sugar fix – don’t deprive yourself until breaking point and you’re caught stuffing your face with a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts. You just have to make educated ingredient choices.
 

Winding down

I’m a sucker for teas. I love having a cuppa in the evenings while I wind down the day. I put a drop of Peppermint in a glass of hot water and voilà my peppermint tea is ready. The great thing is that peppermint aids the digestive system, so it’s wonderful to have at the end of the day. If my nose is feeling a little stuffed, I would inhale the vapors at the same time and it clears my nose right through.

Fun fact: 1 drop of Peppermint is equivalent to 29 peppermint tea bags. Trust me, once you try it you will never look at a tea bag the same again.

Tranquil is one of my favorite night time blends. I apply it on my wrist, neck and inhale just before bed and I am out like a light. The smell is so calming that I’ve been having some of my best sleeps using it.
Diffusing Lavender or Peace & Calming in the bedroom is a wonderful way to ease myself into snoozy land.
Speaking of snoozy land, I think it’s time for me to get my Tranquil and count my Z’s!
